Therapy for Adolescents

The period of adolescence and young adulthood development can be a confusing, challenging, and rewarding time in a person's life. Often, young men and women feel pulled to opposite ends of decisions and choices; torn between childhood and adulthood. Deeply impacted by peers, culture, and community influences, adolescents and young adults may find themselves feeling lost or "out of control."

During this time an adolescent commonly develops a sense of identity and is laying the ground work for their future. Dr. Perper is genuine in her approach to her younger clients and treats each person as an individual. She takes the time to understand the unique styles of dress, language, music, and culture. Rather than giving an abundance of advice or opinions, she invites youth to a conversation. In this way, Dr. Perper is successful in engaging the participation of adolescents.

By respecting the opinions of your young adult, Dr. Perper provides guidance towards positive life choices and facilitates problem-solving techniques. Goals in therapy often include working towards adopting healthy coping strategies, developing conflict management skills, clarifying goals and desires, improving communication, encouraging self-care, and improving self-esteem.
